Communications and information are essential to build a future based on data and artificial intelligence.

The mission assigned to the communications and information sector of the Saudi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science is to develop all means, resources and access to information and knowledge through disseminating information and employing digital technologies in an innovative manner.

The Saudi National Committee is moving forward in empowering key personnel to provide policy advice, international cooperation, monitoring and insight in the areas of freedom of expression, access to information, and everything related to digital transformation, in line with international standards and sustainable development goals.

Achievements of the Saudi National Commission for Communications and information

  • Supporting the Kingdom in accrediting the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics, affiliated with the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence, as a Category 2 center at UNESCO during the organization’s general conference at its 42nd session in 2023.
  • The Kingdom’s support for the international conference titled "For a Reliable Internet", held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris during the period February 21-23, 2023, through the participation of five national bodies in preparing draft guidelines for regulating digital platforms, which were discussed during the conference.
  • Supporting the preservation of documentary heritage in the Kingdom by participating in the preparation of the multilateral consultative meeting on the preservation of documentary heritage in the Kingdom, which was held during the period 22-23 October 2023 in the city of Riyadh, through cooperation with the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate and UNESCO. A representative from the National Committee also participated in the meeting topics.
  • The Kingdom’s contribution in developing and adopting the strategy of the Information for All Program (IFAP) of UNESCO for the period 2023-2029; by participating in the work of the program’s Intergovernmental Council at its 12th session held at the organization’s headquarters in Paris during the period 21-22 June 2023.

Workshops, seminars and conferences in sectors

Representing the Kingdom at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the Information for All Program (IFAP) in its twelfth session at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris; as the Kingdom is an elected member of the aforementioned councils in 2023.
