• The first Saudi site to be registered on the World Heritage List. 
• The largest preserved site of the Nabataean civilization, south of Petra. Its water wells are an exceptional example of the Nabataeans' architectural achievements and their hydrological expertise. 
• The site bears a unique testimony to the Nabataean civilization. 
• The site has 50 inscriptions from the pre-Nabataean era and a number of cave drawings. 
• The site includes 111 huge tombs, including 94 decorated with ornaments.
